What a sad sight to see as you peep out of your window, knowing that there is at least three more months of solid winter to bear! It is a battle to convince yourself to get out into the knee-deep snow to brush off and start the car for work. You may have even slipped on some black ice just lying in wait under that white fluff, that sends you tumbling to the cold, wet ground. Ah yes, winter could be a ferocious beast that could eat up all your energy and make you feel like crying.

Sometimes, the key to keeping your sanity in times like these is to keep yourself busy. It is crucial to keep a notepad and pencil handy for a long list of to-do things that will keep you on your toes throughout the season. Start from the inside out: Reading up on how to start growing seeds for your spring gardening, painting and revamping your living space, and keeping on top of storage for items at your fingertips. Get busy cleaning out closets, framing and hanging photos and artwork, and get to that DIY project that you’ve been putting off for lack of time. You will see that the list is extensive, and is only therapeutic for your case of the ‘January Blues’.

Good food is also a great stimulator, as long as you pair it with fabulous workouts! Work on new recipes and invite friends over to share in your latest kitchen creation. Have an active life outdoors as well! On the milder days of winter, take your pet for a long walk, or plan a skiing day trip with colleagues at work. Take in the fresh air and capture all the vitamin D the sun has to offer. Your health and well-being is vital to you living your best life. Be in the moment and rediscover how important simple things are around you. You don’t have to be on vacation to breathe again! I promise. You just have to see the world with a fresh pair of eyes.

Long baths, self-facials, manicures and pedicures are good way of rejuvenating your mind and body. Peace and tranquility can be found when pampering oneself. Use a diffuser to fill the house with aromas of wintergreen, peppermint and lemongrass for a soothing and pleasant environment. Get creative! There are endless possibilities to create positive vibes in the midst of a cold and harsh winter. Take the time to explore what works for you.

Lastly, think positively, and take time for reflection and stillness. Read inspiring books, or take the time to write a few logs in a journal about the better part of each day. Being submersed into meaningful thoughts causes ones’ mind to soar, and become strong and purposeful. Remember to take each day, one day at a time, trusting that spring is just around the corner.
